Skate Ambitions

This page reveals my secret identity as a skater boy. Below, you'll find a brief introduction to cool niche sport, a highlight of my recent competitions and events, and some skate videos if you want to explore further.

Longboarding, the sport

Longboard Dancing and Freestyle (LDF) is a relatively new sport that closely resembles flatland freestyle skateboarding. It combines freestyle tricks (pop tricks) and dance steps (footwork) to create fluid, creative routines performed on flat ground.

The sport likely originated from downhill skateboarding, where creative riders transformed "sliding"—a functional technique used to control speed—into technical variations to impress their friends when they bomb hills. As riders began incorporating movements from other disciplines like footwork and carving from surfing, and ollies and freestyle tricks from skateboarding, manufacturers responded to this trend by creating longboards designed to accommodate this diverse range of movements. These boards needed to handle high speeds while providing ample space for footwork and pop-able tails that enabled aerial freestyle tricks. One of the pioneering boards was the Loaded Dancer, which likely gave the sport its name.

The discipline has evolved significantly and is now predominantly practiced on flat ground. For a showcase of longboard dancing and freesyle, check out this video I created with my friend Dare.
