I’m a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of Toronto, working with Prof. Karan Singh at the Dynamic Graphics Project (DGP). I’ve also had a brief exchange at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (MPI-INF), working with Christian Theobalt and Rishabh Dabral. My research focuses on modeling human behaviour using generative models, with a particular passion for making 2D/3D digital characters more expressive and lifelike. My works center around controllability, with the goal of turning generative models into animation tools.

Current Interests: Video Diffusion, Speech-driven Animation, Facial Animation, Controllability

Constructing Dynamic Conversations with Neural Back-channel Generation and Voice-line Scheduling

Yifang Pan, Chris Landreth, Karan Singh

This paper turns independently recorded voice lines into a two-speaker conversation, using a neural scheduler and a back-channel predictor to give animators control over turn-taking and listener responses.

ACM CHI, 2026

FAME: Exploring Expressive Facial Avatars for Lyrical and Non-Lyrical Music Visualization for d/Deaf Individuals

Suhyeon Yoo, Yifang Pan, Ashish Ajin Thomas, Karan Singh, Khai N. Truong

This paper presents FAME, a design probe that conveys music to d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing users through expressive facial animation, instrument highlights, and synchronized captions.
